Victoria cartoonist sends Free Comics to Afghanistan

For Immediate Release

VICTORIA CARTOONIST RESURRECTS THE USO “COMIC-BOOK STYLE”

Victoria, BC: Local cartoonist Gareth Kyle Gaudin has decided to send a
specially created free issue of his self-published comic book “The Magic Teeth
Dailies” to Canadian troops stationed in Afghanistan.

Gaudin explained his goal as “hoping to entertain the Canadian troops
stationed overseas. I figure they’re bound to be bored senseless that far from
a comic book shop,” Gaudin surmises. “If I can’t get them to laugh with my
comic strips, then I’ve literally got to go back to the drawing board. This is
the litmus test for my line of work”.

The 52 page comic book will be printed by South Island Print Services in
Sydney, BC and sent free for distribution among Canadian
Armed Forces, here and abroad.

The release date for The Magic Teeth “Free For The Troops” edition is
Wednesday August 1, 2007.

Since its inception in July of 2004, Gaudin’s cartoon-a-day project has so
far seen him produce in excess of 1100 consecutive daily strips ranging from
the comical to the sublime.

Gareth Gaudin, 34, has been gaining attention locally and internationally
recently due to the growing popularity of his alter ego, The Perogy Cat.

The Perogy Cat has been subtly influencing British Columbia pop culture since
his inception in 2003, but it wasn’t until Gaudin committed to drawing a
“cartoon-a-day for the rest of his life” in July 2004, that his reputation really
started to spread. Through cartoons and illustrations in Victoria and Vancouver
magazines and papers, including a cover story and feature in Monday Magazine
this past May, and thanks to his healthy output of self-published graphic
novels, Gaudin’s Perogy Cat has steadily increased his fanatical fan base.
In February, the rock band Barenaked Ladies added to this exposure by
including the Perogy Cat in a sly appearance on CBS’s Late Show with David
Letterman.
